I have made saying “I love you” to friends, family members and strangers a regular and awkward thing.
It began over twenty years ago when my dad had his leg amputated. I made the decision then that I would end every single phone call with these 3 words. I wanted him to know it. Turns out love is a gateway drug.
Love is fluid if we allow it to be. Flowing in and out of us with no start or stop in sight. Love is an open bar with a free flowing champagne fountain of unconditional grace.
But many of us have been hurt or taken advantage of in the name of this 4 letter word. This phrase may feel loaded. So we protect our hearts with a fortress of armor, soldiers readying for battle so that our tenderness remains intact, making it difficult to trust anyone.
Well guess what? I am going to tell you that I love you every chance I get. And yeah, it might make you feel uncomfortable - especially if you’re the checker at Safeway. But if I get hit by a bus today I want you to know this.
And you know what else? I don’t want anything from you. Love is not a transaction. It just is.
So that’s it. That’s all I got.
Have a lovely day you beautiful human…I love you
